Masks of Deceit

Masks of Deceit

They wear their smiles like a mask so fine,
Whispered promises laced with bitter wine,
Fake friends they dance in the light of day,
But turn like shadows when you lose your way.

Their words, like honey, drip so sweet,
Yet in the dark, their daggers meet,
You trust, you laugh, you give your all,
But where are they when you start to fall?

Fake lovers come with eyes aglow,
Their love a play, a practised show,
They hold you close, but hearts are cold,
A counterfeit romance they sold.

They weave a dream, soft and bright,
Then vanish in the dead of night,
Their touch, their gaze, it feels so real,
Yet emptiness is all you feel.

In the end, they fade away,
Leaving only scars that stay,
A heart that yearned, a trust betrayed,
By love and friendship, both decayed.

But now you see, with clearer eyes,
The truth behind their well-worn lies,
For fake friends and lovers may deceive,
But you are stronger than they believe.
